Canyon Dusk

The Colorado Plateau's canyon country undergoes its most dramatic color transformation in the hour after the sun drops toward the western mesa: the red Navajo sandstone shifts from its daylight orange-red toward a deeper, violet-tinged rust; the sky cycles through amber and coral toward violet and deep blue; the shadows in the canyon walls go from gray to a specific purple-blue. This palette captures that brief transition — the geological red, the sky colors, and the shadows — in proportions that translate to design contexts beyond the landscape.

Canyonlands at 6:30 PM in October. The canyon walls have gone from orange to rust to a color that has no name — part red, part violet, part shadow. The sky above is still pale amber. In 20 minutes it will be dark.

Editorial direction

Collections should do more than group swatches. Each one should read like a usable design direction with a clear emotional lane and a real application surface.

This detail route is the missing layer between a generic palette gallery and a convincing design reference. It gives the set a specific point of view.
